When will our government wake up and realize that gun laws are doing nothing but hurting innocent civilians. Criminals love to feed off these new gun laws, and every time a new law is passed, they are pleased to know that if they break into that house they scoped out,it would be a breeze because the dorks that live there gave up the guns they had because the government said so. It seems the government only wants the crooks to have guns.

It is a gratifying to hear a reasoned non-hysterical voice discussing the issues of mental health and firearms. The Virginia Tech shootings were horrific and probably preventable. Unfortunately, the State of Virginia has one of the worst records of treatment enforcement in the nation.

I recommend that you investigate the Treatment Advocacy Center (TAC) by visiting their website at www.treatmentadvocacycenter.org. This is the foremost organization advocating the enforced treatment of the dangerously mentally ill.

Misguided civil rights activists have created a situation in this country that allows these unfortunates to “die with their rights on” rather than receive the treatment they are unaware they need. The very nature of their illness renders them incapable of recognizing that they are a danger to themselves and others.

The “trigger” that would prevent dangerously mentally ill persons from legally obtaining a weapon is a difficult line to legislate. However, an involuntary commitment order, whether for in-patient or out-patient treatment, is at least a starting point. These orders are generally difficult to obtain and are usually only issued when a person demonstrates they are a grave danger to themselves or others. This, by definition, would not include persons suffering from post-traumatic stress, depression, etc unless they were delusional, paranoid, and acting out dangerously.

Thank you for bringing this issue out in the open. As you said, gun rights advocates can not afford to take an absolutist stance on this issue that would not serve anyone.

Best regards,

Bob Gallaher

It's been a really long time since the last podcast. When is the next one? I like to listening during my ride to/from work. I usually don't have the time to read all of the entries.

I just subscribe to the podcast via I Tunes and listen when I have time. It works better for me than streaming it all at once. You might give that a try.

Visual Guy,

I do post them when I'm working from a manuscript, but I put them on my regular blog at http://www.snubnose.info/wordpress/. However, the podcast is really a different mental channel and I don't always have a manuscript for the podcasts. Transcribing them to text would take too much time. I just couldn't get it done.

I do post them when I’m working from a manuscript, but I put them on my regular blog at http://www.snubnose.info/wordpress/. However, the podcast is really a different mental channel and I don’t always have a manuscript for the podcasts. Transcribing them to text would take too much time. I just couldn’t get it done.

It would be wonderful if you could post your blog in writing vs. just an audio file.

It takes about 5 times as long to listen as to read for me, and I just can't keep up with the info overload!

Thanks!
